Scanline — CRT, VHS and analog-glitch effect
Run your footage, webcam or a single photo through a stacked CRT / VHS / datamosh pipeline — chroma splits, tracking tear, phosphor masks and rolling scanlines, all rendered live in the browser. Nothing is uploaded; your files never leave your device.
What it does
Scanline rebuilds the look of dying analog hardware as a real-time canvas effect with four stackable layers you can switch on independently. The Analog layer drives RGB chroma split, color bleed, a desaturating tracking tear that rolls down the frame, horizontal-hold jitter and a slow VHS rolling bar. The Digital layer datamoshes the image into displaced blocks you control by speed and coverage. The CRT layer warps the picture with barrel curvature and a corner vignette, and the Phosphor Mask section overlays a real sub-pixel grid — aperture grille (vertical Trinitron stripes), shadow-mask dot triads, or a scanline grid — with adjustable strength and bloom glow for that lit-screen halo.
On top of all that sits an always-on Display layer: animated scanlines with their own frequency, speed and intensity, signal noise, and sparse black-and-white signal snow. An optional Mono mode remaps everything to a two-color duotone using your own light and dark colors. Nine presets — Full, Analog, Digital, Subtle, VHS, Broadcast, Trinitron, Dead Ch., and Cinema — set every parameter at once as a starting point, then you fine-tune the individual sliders. Pick a Fast / Good / Sharp quality tier, set Duration so the animated artifacts loop cleanly, and dial overall Amount from a subtle wash to a fully blown-out dead channel. Works on video, live webcam or images, chains with other effects via Combine, animates on the keyframe timeline, and exports to MP4, WebM or PNG.
Use it for
- Give a music video or DJ-set clip an authentic VHS-tape look for social
- Add CRT scanlines and curvature to gameplay or retro-themed footage
- Turn a webcam feed into a glitchy analog-TV stream for live overlays
- Distress a photo with chroma split and signal snow for cover art
- Drop a Trinitron aperture-grille mask over titles for a true CRT screen feel
- Create datamosh block-glitch transitions between scenes in an edit
How to use it
Open the Studio and pick a source: your webcam, a video or an image.
Add Scanline from the hub, tweak its controls and watch the preview update live.
Export a 9:16 MP4 (or WebM / PNG) — no watermark with a license.
